What's the Matter?

I changed the title I had planned, but I finally finished my Matter activities!!!!!!!!  I've been working on them enough the last two nights so this post will be a short one.  I'm ready to eat dinner!

Rachel from Mrs. Rachel's Room made some uber cute freebies that I snatched up and used for the backgrounds of my pages.  I'm really excited to put this unit to good use next week.

Here's a preview:

I'm in love with this page for kiddos to brainstorm solids, liquids and gases.  You can get it for free at my TPT store.  Just click on the picture.

What's it matter?

Soon and very soon I must teach about matter.  The main focus in our district is for students to know the difference between an item that is just an item and a mixture.  Of course there is so much more that goes along with matter so I'm trying to compile the ideas I've used over the years and add some new ideas to create a fun unit.  So here's a little preview:

Anything in particular you think I should make sure to include?

A little more President's Day plus some St. Paddy's Diddies!

Today we were able to get a little bit more reading and writing for President's Day done.  I used this awesome craft I found on Pinterest from The First Grade Parade mentioned in my last post.  Here's our Abe Lincoln and George Washington cuties with writing:

Here's a close-up:

I just had them write a paragraph with facts about Washington.  Obviously this kiddo forgot the whole topic and conclusion sentence situation.  The kids loved to learn about his wooden teeth.

And on another note, I thought I'd share the fun songs we've been singing in my class to build fluency.  Just click on it if you'd like to use them in your class!
